So, you are either a masochist or a sociopath, and have decided to venture into a Big Box store on Black Friday.

I, along with my fellow teammates, are essentially juicing this week, knowing there will be untold horrors waiting for us after our peaceful Thanksgivings.

Having cashiered multiple times throughout the years, and most recently joined a team at a Big Box store for the holidays, I’m intimately familiar with the customers that back up the line.

A few quick tips would make the wait shorter for everyone, and we on the register’s lives slightly less hellish. Here’s how:

Bring Your Own Bag, or Forego One.

Every time a customer says “you know what? I don’t need a bag” or “that’s okay, I’ll carry it,” I could kiss the soles of their filthy feet. Wrestling wreaths, garlands, signs, frames, pictures into giant bags not only takes up time, but counter-space, which means you can’t put the rest of your items up. Take the cart to your car, or bring a tote.
